“When a woman is giving birth, she has sorrow because her hour has come, but when she has delivered the baby, she no longer remembers the anguish, for joy that a human being has been born into the world.” John 16:21.
The above quote is confirmation that motherhood is a sacred task based on courage, patience, faith, sacrifice, endurance and selflessness. It is only in motherhood that we witness and experience the greatest love of all; the kind of love that has immensely contributed to the growth and sustainability of humanity. Her womb is a fertile garden whereby the seed of life is nurtured.
She can put the wellbeing of her family before her own, she’s willing to sit you through a painful moment without judging, giving you an ear and a shoulder to cry on when the whole world has forsaken you. Unlike our friends, she gives without any expectations. If needs be, she would gladly forfeit her own life to save yours.
Imagine a mother fleeing from a war zone carrying a toddler on her back, with the hope to shield her child from harm. Imagine a mother sleeping on an empty stomach so that her children can eat. Imagine a mother who is deep in debt to ensure that her children are educated. Imagine a mother losing her life during birth.
After all, that’s said and done, a mother is still fighting for safety and protection from the very same people she cares for. We truly owe a lot to mothers of the world, their contribution is priceless. Shame on those who feel superior by victimising our mothers. Let me take this time to say; HAPPY MOTHERS DAY!
