Penreach Shalamuka Science Centre is hosting this year’s Provincial Astro Quiz Competition for the Enhlazeni region. The competition is aimed at grade seven learners and is based on themes around astronomy. The Astro Quiz, founded by South African Agency for Science and Technology Advancement (SAASTA), aims to contribute to the improvement of interest and understanding of basic astronomy.

This year over 56 schools will be participating in the Atsro Quiz. The first four rounds of the competition took place on May 26 at the Penreach Shalamuka Science Centre. Primary school students undertook a written test in their teams of four, which tested their astronomy knowledge against that of their peers.

The provincial competition consists of four rounds of an interactive quiz, monitored by the Department of Education officials and Penreach science facilitators, to gain top spot for their province. The top team will then compete in the national event which will be held on October 4 to 6.
