The Good Work Foundation (GWF) has won the silver award in the category Hybrid Learning at the International Reimagine Education Conference held in Philadelphia, USA, recently. Reimagine Education is a prestigious international competition rewarding innovative initiatives aimed at enhancing student learning outcomes and employability.
At the conference, GWF was recognised for its Open Learning Academy, a low-cost, enquiry-based model of education that arranges children into self-organised digital learning sessions. Young adults, recruited from the local community, are trained to be able to facilitate these offline learning sessions in which the children, aged from four to 16 years old, explore predominantly English and mathematics using free, game-based apps. The model is celebrated for its ability to alleviate traditional pressure points in the South African education system.
