The Agriculture and Forestry Expo (AGFO) 2017 was launched at a networking event held at Casterbridge Lifestyle Centre in White River on Thursday, March 2. The expo is the preferred trade platform where new machinery for the agriculture and forestry sectors is displayed. AGFO was held for the first time during 2016.

“AGFO was conceptualised by a group of volunteers to ensure that there’s an efficient and effective trading platform for the agriculture and forestry industries in Mpumalanga,” said Joey Lascelles (Chairperson, AGFO committee and Chief Executive Officer, United Forest Products). “It is an expo where like-minded people are able to gather, network and do business to ensure the growth of the economy in these sectors.”

Besides launching AGFO 2017, which will take place at the Casterbridge Lifestyle Centre from September 14 to 16, the organisers handed out trophies to the 2016 sponsors and expo stand prize winners. These included Valley Macadamias (gold sponsor), Ezigro Seedlings and MTO Forestry (silver sponsors) and United Forest Products, Imvelo Forests and SILVIX Forestry (bronze sponsors).

As part of its corporate social investment initiatives, AGFO presented a R5 000 cheque to Renate Bowers from the Rotary Club White River. Lascelles further stated that the Honorary Rangers had received a free exhibition stand at AGFO 2016, valued at R6 000, and R8 500 which was raised at an expo auction.

“Our objectives for AGFO 2017 is to again ensure that we promote agriculture and forestry in the area, that it’s a successful trade platform for exhibitors, that we promote local businesses, and that we make use of local businesses and entertainment during the event,” concluded Lascelles.

Exciting events on the programme include a networking function, an agriculture and forestry forum, product demonstrations, various competitions, ‘boeresport’, fire-fighting demonstrations, and entertainment for children and adults including jumping castles and live music.
