SANParks together with the University of Pretoria, Global Environmental Fund, Department of Environmental Affairs, UNEP and Ezemvelo KZN is launching an initiative, Have Your SAY, in the Kruger National Park from February 22 to 25. The aim of the project is to determine the impact rhino poaching has on day, overnight and trail tourists to the Kruger National Park (KNP).

“This platform affords tourists the opportunity to communicate their feelings about the issue of rhino poaching and the anti poaching efforts which have been implemented,” said Professor Berendien Lubbe Head: Tourism Management Division, Marketing Management Division, and University of Pretoria. “They can also make suggestions regarding this issue. Tourists can either participate via a one on one appointment lasting for 40 minutes or participate in a group discussion lasting an hour 30 minutes. These will be conducted by representatives of Pretoria University. The individual appointments will be held throughout the day and group discussions will take place in the afternoon.”

The Have Your Say forum will be conducted at Berg-en-Dal, Lower Sabie, Skukuza, Pretoriuskop and the Biyamiti Bushveld Camp.

“The project will then be continued at the Hluhluwe iMfolozi Game Reserve in Natal at the beginning of March,” continues Prof Lubbe. “On completion of the project, a report will be compiled and the information will be released.”
