Learners from White River Circuit gathered at the local Library for the annual numeracy event on Tuesday, November 3. The numeracy activity attracted Grade nine learners from White River Circuit. “Numeracy is an annual activity which is meant to equip learners with basic mathematical skills’’, said Sello Mabuza, one of the organisers of the event.

Five learners from Hoërskool Rob Ferreira entered into the final competition which saw them walking away with different prizes. These included trophies and scientific calculators. The event saw Nolwazi Mkasi and Patience Mndawe scooping respective top positions.” I am so delighted to scoop the first prize and this award motivates me to achieve more’’, expressed Mkasi, who scooped the first position.

“We would like to thank Mbombela Municipality for its long support towards numeracy activities. It has since become one of our major sponsors in form of trophies, “commented Mabuza.

“The Library has answered the government’s call to support Mathematics and Science programmes,” said Laverne Sanderson, White River Librarian. Sanderson also said that the programme directly instils learner confidence towards the subject.

White River Library recently also hosted literacy activities in the form of Spelling Bee and a reading competition. The event was attended by schools such as Acek academy, Angels Park Academy, Metropolitan School, King’s School and Dwaleni.
