There are now a pool table, dartboard and table tennis table in the clubhouse at the Pilgrim’s Rest golf course for use by members, thanks to a generous donation.
The donation was made by a group of friends who have held a Pilgrim’s Cup tournament at the golf course for the past seven years. New members can only join the group on referral by a current or past participant in the tournament.
The group arrives on a Thursday afternoon to enjoy a weekend of golf and socialising until late into the night, heading home again on a Sunday morning.
The golf tournament takes the form of a Ryder Cup with two teams of 18 players each, known as the Mulligans and the Gilligans. Over the years the Mulligans and the Gilligans have each had three wins, but the contest ended in a draw for the first time this year.
Paul Stokes, the organiser of the event, explained that over the years the locals and the golf club had been very welcoming. They’ve made many friends and have come to love the town and especially the golf club. For this reason, they feel privileged being able to give something back to help towards keeping the heritage site alive.
“We would like to say thank you to the people of Pilgrim’s Rest for making us feel so welcome each year for the Pilgrim’s Cup,” said Stokes. “And we look forward to many, many, more.”
