I have the ability to see things in pictures in my mind.  I read something a friend wrote about admiring an informal arrangement of beautiful colourful flowers in a glass vase that she accidentally bumped over.  The vase broke and the flowers were strewn over the table and floor.

The water spilt over the table and onto the floor, but the stench…

As I saw this picture in my head of the beautiful arrangement I thought: It is unbelievable that something so beautiful could stink so much.  Just imagine our inside, maybe beautiful to look at, sweet smelling and all seems honky dory.  What we show the outside world looks so beautiful, but how do you really look inside?

We hurt with regret, bitterness, unforgiveness, anger and unbelieve.  Our clear, healthy “water” inside gets contaminated, and on the inside, the stench thereof creates in us something we should not allow.

John 4:14 But whoever drinks of the water that I will give him will never be thirsty again. The water that I will give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”

How do we get rid of the inside stench?  How do we replace it with a spring of water welling up to eternal life? We choose to.  It does not just happen, it will hurt and your “earthly” part of yourself will rebel against it.  Thoughts of: “It was not me, it’s not my fault, I don’t deserve it” etc. will race through your mind, may be justly and rightly so, but still not in God’s will.  If He could hang on a cross, busy dying, and He could say: “Father forgive them, they do not know what they are doing,” who are we not to forgive?

Jesus is our clean, healthy “water”, we must mind, body and soul cleanse ourselves from the murky stinking water.  Sometimes in our lives, we drown in the stinking inside, because we cannot see another way, or we are too stubborn and set in our ways to allow God’s will to reign.

There is joy, love, kindness, goodness, peace, patience, gentleness, faithfulness but above all self-control.  These are all Fruits of the Spirit, (Galatians 5 v 22 & 23).  That is what our inside is supposed to be like.

Do you have all these attributes in your life?  Or are there voices in your head saying you are not good enough?  Do you arrogantly think you don’t need God in your life?  When meeting Christ for the first time, we are on fire and want to share our feelings with our loved ones, sometimes they don’t understand and do not share our happiness.  As you journey through your walk as a child of the highest God, you lose some of that enthusiasm and little bit by bit your inside “water” turns murky, and one day you realise you are so far away from God’s plans for your life.

We get hurt, we battle financially, we are rejected and scorned, but allowing the lies of Satan in your life will make you a very unhappy person.  Jeremiah 29:11- For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

If our Creator has plans for us, is it not time for us to live up to it, and stop feeding our inside the stinking water, and allow Him to cleanse us.  The hard part is… it is up to you!  He has already done His part and died for you.  The choice is yours.
