Remmogo VEP (Victim Empowerment Project), The Executive Mayor of Thaba Chweu Local Municipality-Selina Mashego Sekgobela, Dintjie SAPS, local Tribal Authorities, Department of Health, Department of Social Development, came together to honour the elderly members of society on 23rd October, at the Aventura Blydepoort. Mrs Mpumalanga 2019 finalist, Kgaugelo Ntini, was also amongst the invited guests.
According to a media statement released by Dintjie SAPS Communications Officer, Sergeant Kenneth Malele, the ceremony was targeting community members aged between 80 and 100, as a way to assure them that they are still very important in the community. A total of 120 blankets were distributed to the senior citizens.
“In his address, our Station Commander at Dintjie SAPS, Captain Lucas Makhubedu, reminded the elderly people that they are also entitled to the same rights that other citizens enjoy, therefore they must not hesitate to report any form of abuse to the police. He commended the Remmogo VEP management and board, for a good working relationship with the police. The Executive Mayor emphasised, to the elders, the importance of utilising all available institutions for their wellbeing, such as Department of Social Development and the police, to make sure that they are safe at all times,” said Sergeant Malele.
