On Sunday, September 16th, the Lowveld Nomads made their first ever visit to Sabie Country Club, to hold their Quarterly Lawn Bowls Fundraising event, hosted by Sabie Bowls Club.
“After days of hard work preparing the Bowling Green, readying the hall, preparing refreshments and scrounging Prizes and other donations from Sabie Spar, Midas, Van Heerden’s Pharmacy, Sabie Stationers and the Sabie Country Club, the great day dawned, cool and misty,” Chris Colverd said.
“Indeed, the show was underway at 09:00, when 40 bowlers, no less, filled all seven rinks on the green to play the first of two games of 10 ends each, with teams drawn at random, by some mysterious Nomads formulae! Six games of Trips and one of Pairs, with all Touchers being meticulously recorded for a Year-end Prize, and no measuring allowed,” Chris continued.
“Eventually, it was time for a break, and much needed refreshments, of which there were plenty, sandwiches, savoury and sweet treats galore. The serious business of Fundraising was underway, with Raffle tickets being sold by the score. Funds were raised for Sabie-MAST and the Ubuntu Organisation.
Dusk came and went to be replaced by darkness, as a few hardy souls successfully drained the 30 Litre Cask of craft draught beer, which had been donated by those kind people at Sabie Brewing Company.
Sunday was an overwhelming success, many thanks to Lowveld Nomads for the opportunity to show what Sabie Bowls Club is capable of, and to all those Club Members who donated by way of Prizes, Refreshments, food, old clothes and other items for Ubuntu to use, and also by way of financial assistance, and their time in helping Merle and her very small band of helpers with all the hard work which went into making sure that this day was such an enjoyable occasion,” Chris concluded.
