Christo Botha, the owner of AIM Training Academy, situated in White River, started his company in 2001.

AIM, short for Association in Musketry, provides a wide of training modules. Firearm training in handgun, shotgun, rifle and carbine up to an advanced stage, National Certificate in Security Practice, SIRA Grade E – B and specialized courses, SIRA armed response, SIRA instructor and NQF Level 3 Learnership in Security Practises, to name but a few. AIM also has a state-of-the-art indoor tactical shooting range and they supervise firearm training. The AIM facility also includes three classrooms. An outdoor 185m shooting range is also available.

Christo started his career in 1978 in the South African air force. He worked as an aircraft engineer at Waterkloof, Squadron 3, until 1993 and afterwards at the Krygkor Group. Christo wrote the manuals for the Cheetah aircraft and specifically for the ejection seats. After Christo was retrenched, he worked at Coin Security and after he resigned, he worked in Richardsbay for his brother, who has a Marine Transportation Company. During this time Christo also did the necessary courses to be able to start his own company.

“I wrote our own training material, as there was not any available for certain of the training modules that we offer. For the SA SSETA accreditation, SETA stands for Sector Education and Training Authority, you need to be able to develop, deliver and evaluate learning programmes which result in specified registered standards or qualifications. The government provides the training material for the SA SSETA accredited courses. For the Bodyguard Training, for example, I had to write the manuals. There are nine subjects for this protection course. Our training material is fully accredited and we also supply this training material to other training institutions. We make use of specialists. For example, for the hand to hand combat, we make use of a martial arts specialist,” Christo said.

“We offer Advanced and Evasive Driving courses, as well. For the SA SSETA firearm assessments, we have three registered assessors. AIM training Academy and Gun shop is also a SAPS registered dealer in firearms and ammunition. A gunsmith, Willem Oosthuizen, is available on our premises. Some of our clients include the Mbombela Traffic Department, Mpumalanga Parks Board, Tanda Tula and Kings Camp in the Timbavati, to name a few. Naspoti J&M Security, D&L Patrols Nelspruit, as well as other security companies, also makes use of us to train their security guards,” Christo continued.

“We have very competitive prices and people can contact us if they require further information,” Christo concluded.
