A Bingo night was held inside Canimambo restaurant in Graskop, on the evening of 15th May. More than fifty local residents, mainly middle-aged and seniors, booked their seats and attended the first-ever public Bingo event to be held in Graskop.
The event was put together by GAIN (Graskop Animals In Need), to raise funds which will be channelled towards caring for local animals.
According to GAIN spokesperson, Carla Gibson, the Bingo night was used as an innovative option to involve the residents in a collective campaign to rescue animals from neglect, disease, abuse, starvation and other unfriendly conditions.
“The Bingo Night is basically to raise funds for GAIN, we are going to be building new enclosures and sterilising animals. GAIN has a huge impact in the community, in one year we have managed to sterilise 58 animals. We have put animals out of their suffering, like those in snares. We don’t live it up to the community; we take it upon ourselves and do it.”
“We have about thirty prizes to be won. A Bingo professional is here as well, R20 000 worth of prizes, a night for two, with breakfast at the Wilderness Guest House, there’s accommodation at Gecko Lodge including a game drive, all those prizes are over R3000. A lot of restaurants around town have offered vouchers, one of them being the Garden Chef, with a voucher for R1500.” said Gibson.
R6000 was raised for GAIN and Gibson was thankful to everybody who was involved in making the event a success.
“Firstly to all the prize sponsors, we can’t thank you enough for all the awesome prizes you donated. To Grant Bosman, thank you for all your help and support. Tammy and Elsabe, for helping in sourcing the prizes. Canimambo restaurant for allowing us to use the lounge area for the event and sponsoring some of the costs involved. Thank you to Nicole Brummer who was the MC for the evening, she did not let us down even though she had a family emergency; and let’s not forget her lovely assistant too.”
Gibson thanked every single person who bought a ticket and attended the event: “This would not have been possible without your support. I hope you all had fun and please make use of the prizes you won,” she concluded.
