House Bethlehem had their first fundraiser golf day held at the White River Country Club on Friday, May 4th, with the main sponsor being NTT Toyota White River. Companies were invited to enter the competition and also to sponsor the holes. Round Table 64, White River also sponsored a hole on the day.
“House Bethlehem is a place of safety for children who had to be removed from their family homes because of trauma or family conflict. There are two centers, one in Nelspruit and one in White River. House Bethlehem’s expenses during a normal month are around R25, 000 and without a financial buffer, we are struggling. That is the reason we decided to hold this fundraiser,” said Mariaan Lourens, House Bethlehem Executive Officer. She thanked all the donors and sponsors who are currently supporting them and also to those who are newly committed to providing for these children.
Lourens said that they are in the process of applying to become a Child & Youth Care Centre (CYCC), but they still have to meet local and national regulations related to health and safety, amongst others.
House Bethlehem in Nelspruit needs a fence to be erected and White River needs wooden planks in order to secure their current fence before they will be able to apply to become a CYCC. Other urgent needs are eggs, milk and bread as these are essential foods for the diet of the growing children.
There is also a need for clean drinking water, especially for the White River house. Wi-Fi or cabled Internet has now become a necessity because of the assignments are given to the children to do at home.
Lourens requested anyone who will be able to donate or sponsor House Bethlehem to contact her on 079 490 5095 or via email at firstname.lastname@example.org
