In the same year that Sybrand van Niekerk High School celebrated their 50 years of existence, they had to say a sad farewell to the principal, Francois du Toit and his wife, Antoinette du Toit.
The farewell function was organised by the School Governing Body (SGB) and was held at the Sabie Country Club on November 14th. Present at the function was the Circuit Manager, Mrs N Segodi, SGB Chairperson, Mr E Maunye, Deputy Principal Eric Smit and guests of honour, Francois and Antoinette du Toit.
Pastor Mokoena did the opening and the welcoming and closure by Mr B Ceko. Enos Maunye, Chairman of the SGB, said that it will be difficult to divorce the 50 years of existence of the school to the retirement of the principal because it’s his management, teaching, administration and kitchen staff, security personnel, grounds people and learners who contributed positively to this milestone of 50 years.
“You have not only been a principal but also a father figure to our learners, our learners will always remember you for all you have done in changing their life for the better in a period of 26 years. As governing body, we would like to thank you for your support in executing our work and the love you have shown in all of us. You are retiring with respectable distinction and proud dedication.” Maunye concluded.
