After a long struggle, the sponsor came as a surprise to Harmony Hill Primary School.

“The Sports ground was sponsored by the National Lottery Fund, and the money was only enough for the construction of the soccer field. The area had to be excavated and levelled before construction could begin. This was a very expensive exercise and thanks to our contractor, Mr Ncabane, who was very understanding to do the project for us with our very limited funds,” said Vinolia Mdawena, the headmistress.

The school was facing a lot of challenges in using the community sports grounds. The community sports grounds need proper maintenance and it being used by the community was making it difficult for the school to use it.

Children’s safety at Harmony Hill Primary

On another matter concerning the school, Mdawena expresses her distress about the fact that many taxi drivers are not cooperating with parents and the school.

“Learners have to be picked up at the school gate. This is for security reason but some drivers wait for the learners next to the main road and they are speeding especially in the morning. Teachers do their bus duties for 15 minutes in the afternoon and some learners are picked up only after 30 minutes daily, and it is worse during the month end.

We appeal to parents to assist and take responsibility in this regard. They must make sure that the buses and taxis pick their kids up on time and that they are safe, “concluded Mdawena.
