POWA (People opposing woman abuse) is a “feminist, women’s rights organisation that provides both services, and engages in advocacy in order to ensure the realisation of women’s rights and thereby improve women’s quality of life”.
“Miss Regal International South Africa is associated with the charity organization POWA(People Opposing Women Abuse). POWA advocates for women’s rights and also provides counselling, legal advice and shelter,” Amanda Jele, finalist said.
POWA provides services to survivors such as shelter, counselling and legal advice. “I entered Miss Regal International South Africa because it is an amazing platform for me to be part of an organisation that sees the importance of giving back to the community and combating the social issues that women in this country are facing. I am a strong advocate for women empowerment and the protection of women’s rights, which fits in quite perfectly with the associated charity organization, POWA (People Opposing Women Abuse),” Jele continued.
“Every single day we fight for what is right and strive to be the best versions of ourselves. And more importantly, we have so much to offer the world. And it is a beautiful thing to witness more and more South African women realize this. I am currently approaching individuals and companies to try and get them to make donations to the POWA shelters. They need all the help they can get as they are helping a lot of women and their children and it isn’t easy without the help of the public.” Jele concluded.
