God’s Window restaurant, in Graskop, was announced as one of the finalists for the 2017 Coca Cola Food Festival during the regional semi-finals for Gauteng, Mpumalanga, Northern Cape, Free State and North West. The event took place at the James and Ethel Gray Park, Johannesburg, on September 2.
The owner, Barbara Ndlovu, said that her confidence was restored by the good news, as it eliminated some of her fears about running the business. She attributed the recognition to the hard work by her staff members and all the people who voted for her business.
“I feel very excited about the good news, it’s a nice feeling. We were initially in the top 16 and managed to reach the top four list. People really voted for us and mostly it was the customers who have visited our restaurant. We also did a lot of marketing on Facebook and other social media groups. We had a chance to monitor the process and our hard work paid off,” said Ndlovu.
The Food Festival has recorded up to 4000 eateries registered to participate, with over 40 000 public votes cast to select semi-finalists. The panel of judges included popular faces such as chef and cookbook author, Zola Nene, and the South African Chef’s Association. The finals will take place on September 21.
“People are really losing out on our great meals and we invite them to visit our restaurant. The selection has empowered me to keep on doing what I’m doing. I encourage people to keep on supporting us because our success in the competition will also benefit the town,” said Ndlovu.
Other Mpumalanga semi-finalists include The Woodsman Restaurant in Sabie. Finalists and voters stand a chance to win great cash prizes and other goodies.
