Sixty pensioners gathered inside Glory Hill Clinic, Graskop, on August 23 to receive brand new blankets.
According to Ward 10 councillor, Sandile Shongwe, the handover was an initiative by the Executive Mayor of Thaba Chweu Local Municipality, Selina Mashigo – Sekgobela.
The pensioners were evidently appreciative of the empathetic act from the Mayor’s office.
“We take care of senior citizens during the time of winter by giving them blankets as presents. Another reason is to show the community that senior citizens should be treated with respect, they must not be neglected. We initially intended to cater for fifty pensioners but the number rose to sixty. We were fortunate that more blankets were available to cover the number,” said Shongwe.
He thanked Spar Graskop for kindly providing catering and also thanked other stakeholders who made the handover a success. They include: Albina Mahlangu (Secretary to the Mayor), Connie Mashigo – Sekgobela (ANC Constituency), Cecilia Modipane (Community Development Worker – CDW).
“The initiative is not exclusive to Graskop and will cover other Wards within the Municipality. It’s our humble way of showing the communities that the municipality cares for its people,” said Shongwe.
