The 50th celebrations of Sybrand van Niekerk held from August 18 – 20, hosted by Lesley Döhne, was a celebratory success.
On Friday, Francois du Toit, principal, received the Mayor of Thaba Chweu, Selina Mashigo-Sekgobela and guests at the school. Susan Brits, a retired teacher, received a special award for her life-long commitment to Sybrand van Niekerk High School. The learners, however, celebrated with cake and cooldrinks.
The concert held on Friday, August 18, showcased the talents of Brenden Ledwaba, Johan Yssel, Jezelle. Brenden sang ‘Crazy little thing called love, Isn’t she lovely, All of me and Love comes easy’, his newly released hit single. Johan Yssel, the well-known magician, entertained the audience and Jezelle captivated the audience with her songs.
Ruhlani Makhasthwa, a teacher at Sybrand van Niekerk, wowed the crowd with ‘Can’t pretend’ and ‘Born a Lion’. Dance items were also performed during the concert. On Saturday, a tea garden at the square delighted the guests and on Sunday a service was held in the school hall.
