On Saturday, August 19, The Colour Run turned Mbombela Stadium into a colourful, joyous place. Many people from across the province came together to enjoy the 5 km run, as well as some fun activities.
“Arriving at the venue, the mood was different with so many people smiling and laughing and I knew it was not going to be just an ordinary 5km run,” said Rochester Smith. DJ’s kept everyone even more excited at the starting line with the music. The route planned around the stadium took participants to four colour stations. “The countdown began, and participants continued to colour stations red, blue, green and orange, where paint powder was flung at fellow participants,” Smith added.
Dineo Masithe mentioned that on the way between the red and blue station, she noticed that runners were creative with their dress code. Different themes, some deviating from the normal Colour Run T-shirts with a tutu, were spotted. Some dressed as Batman, Halloween outfits and a royal family, complete with crowns and tiaras.
However, this was the happiest five kilometres run with moments captured at the finish line, leading to the refreshment station. The colourful dance festival followed with DJ’s making everyone dance. There was a colour bomb in the air before the Idols session took place. Steval Pumas own Bernado Carl Botha and Jeremy Beastos Jordaan completed the race.
The colour run event contributes towards charity. “Capitec raises money through ticket sales as a sustainable solution, donating some of the money to various charities every year,” said Masithe.
