Since the start of the White River Bowling Club, about 70 years ago, the Legogote Tournament is a highlight on the bowling calendar. The 2017 Legogote Bowling Tournament was no exception and was contested over the weekend of May 6 and 7 on the fast, unpredictable rinks of the club.
Twenty-two teams played a total of five matches each; four of 11 ends during the morning and one of one ends during the afternoon. “A point was awarded for each end won, with a bonus point for scoring three shots or more. This is an excellent format, as it keeps everyone interested throughout,” commented Chris Colverd.
“Teams of four bowlers made up of any permutation of gentlemen and ladies, fought it out for a day and a half. A very experienced combination of Ben and Dianne Enslin (Nelspruit), together with John and Nannie van Heerden (Malalane) took home the spoils, ahead of Brian Coulson’s outfit, which were followed in third place by Derek Grobler (LVCC). There were prizes, a raffle and numbers boards, to help everyone spend their spare cash,” concluded Colverd.
